Terms of use

Plain terms for using CauseWork as a volunteer, an organisation or a visitor. Using the service means accepting them.

The service

Basic role listings and applying for roles will always be free. CauseWork may charge for optional services such as identity verification, enhanced vetting, promotion or recruitment support.
Organisations post unpaid roles, volunteers apply, and the two talk directly through the site. We are not a party to any arrangement between them.
Searching is open to everyone. Posting, applying and messaging need an account, and every organisation, role and volunteer profile is checked against our published criteria before it goes live.
We may change or withdraw features, and these terms, with notice on the site.

You must be 18 or over, based in the UK, and have at least three years of professional experience, or be applying for a role marked as open to lived experience.
What you write about yourself must be true. We may check it, and we remove profiles that are not what they say.
Roles are unpaid. Expenses are between you and the organisation.

You must be a UK organisation with a public benefit and not run for private profit, as described on our criteria page, and the person registering must be authorised to act for it.
Roles must be genuine, unpaid, described honestly, and must not ask volunteers to pay or to apply elsewhere.
You are responsible for safeguarding, insurance, expenses and any checks the role needs. CauseWork does not carry out DBS or reference checks.
Treat applicants with respect and answer them; we send a reminder when applications wait a week.

No harassment, discrimination, spam, recruitment for paid work, or use of the service for anything unlawful.
Do not scrape, copy or republish profiles or roles beyond the partner feed we publish.
Keep your sign-in to yourself and tell us if it is compromised.

CauseWork decides whether a profile or role goes live, may send it back with a note, and may remove content or close accounts that break these terms.
Automated checks and machine-generated assessments may inform or make those decisions, with oversight used where CauseWork considers it appropriate.
You can report a problem with any page using the link on it.

The service is provided as it is. We do not guarantee that a role will be filled or an application answered, or vouch for any organisation or volunteer.
We are not liable for losses arising from arrangements between volunteers and organisations. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction.
